El Portal de la Vall
Posizione e contatto
Nature enthusiasts in general and fans of the Madriu-Perafita-Claror valley in particular have a reference point: Portal de la Vall. In this space, which is located in the city centre, you'll find plenty of useful information on the leisure activities offered in the Valley, as well as facts on the tasks carried out to manage the valley and promote the values that have made it a UNESCO Human Heritage site.
Visitors also have the chance of watching a documentary on the valley. You'll also get the chance to sign up for any of the workshops held regularly. If you would like to buy a souvenir, there's also a wide range of merchandise for sale.
The valley was declared a Human Heritage Site, in the Cultural Landscape category, in July 2004. This distinction acknowledges its value as an high-mountain territory that has been modified by human activities without losing, over the centuries, its uniqueness. It is worth highlighting, to obtain an idea of the significance of this distinction, that there are currently only 113 such sites worldwide.
