See route 1 of the tourist bus in pdfOn reaching the parish of Canillo, our first stop is the Sanctuary of Meritxell Basilica. The basilica is dedicated to Our Lady of Meritxell, the patron saint of Andorra, and was designed by the renowned Catalan architect Ricard Bofill.
After visiting the basilica, we continue up to the town of Canillo, where we can admire the 12th century Church of Sant Joan de Caselles. Boasting two porticoes and a bell tower with windows on three storeys, standing apart from the nave, this church is an outstanding example of Andorra’s Romanesque architecture and is one of the best known images of the Principality.
From there, we make our way down to the outskirts of Escaldes-Engordany, where we follow the road up to Lake Engolasters. At an altitude of 1,620 metres, the lake offers magnificent views of the valley. On our way back from the lake we pass by the Church of Sant Miquel d’Engolasters, which can only be visited as part of Route 5.
From there, we make our way back to Escaldes-Engordany and Andorra la Vella, where the route ends.
On the tour, you will be accompanied at all times by a tourist guide who speaks Catalan, Spanish, French and English.
