The manned shelter located at 2,260 m above sea level is open from the beginning of June to mid-October. It was inaugurated in 1992, can accommodate up to 45 people and serves mountain cuisine. It also provides the traditional facilities of this type of accommodation (bunk beds, mattresses, showers, toilets, telephone, etc.) and has mobile phone coverage.
The Comapedrosa Shelter is closed in winter as is located in an area with a high risk of avalanches, making it inadvisable to go there without experience. Regardless, you will still be able to make bookings for groups of a minimum of five people, provided that the conditions allow.
How to get there
The most common way to arrive is by foot, parking your car at one of the car parks near the Prats Sobirans housing development. Once there, take the trail towards Pla de l’Estany, first passing through the forest until you reach the crossroads, at which point you need to follow signs for “Refugi i Alt del Comapedrosa”. From here the trail continues mostly westward in the shadow of Comapedrosa before skirting around Collet del Comapedrosa. Finally, head south-east for a few metres and you will find the refuge.
The shelter, located inside the Comapedrosa Natural Park, is one of the waypoints on the GRT (cross-border), the GRP (Andorra) and the GR11 trails, as well as being one of the starting/end points of the circular Coronallacs trail.
It is also part of the Entrepyr network, a cross-border project that facilitates treks in the Pyrenees by promoting manned shelters in French, Spanish and Andorran territories. Bookings for all affiliated shelters can be made directly through the Entrepyr website.
