Voor meer informatie
The parish of Encamp has about 12 thousand inhabitants, and is the only parish in the Principality that has a town that faces to the Atlantic (Pas de la Casa). All towns offer plenty of hidden nooks and secrets to be discovered, on this occasion, we are concentrating on the one at an altitude of almost 1,300 m that shares the name of the parish: Encamp.
Below you'll find details of a fascinating route through a town full of culture, history, nature and culinary tradition!
Getting to know the historic centre of Encamp
To start your trip, we recommend you begin the route by visiting the historic of centre. You will find historic monuments and other medieval constructions, including a water tank excavated from the ground and two dovecotes, Rossell (the smaller of the two) and Cotxa (the bigger), built in the 16th and 17th centuries and located either side of the highlight of this historical tour: the defence tower, better known as Torre dels Moros. Explore this historic site and discover all its secrets. You will be fascinated by its historical and cultural value!
Cultural tour of 3 museums
Moving on from the historical part, we suggest you get to know the cultural heritage of Andorra by visiting some of the parish’s museums. To get to the first, head towards the historic centre of the town and you will find the Casa Cristo Ethnographic Museum: a humble rural house from the turn of the 20th century, where you will experience first hand what life was like for one of Andorra’s poorest families at the time. The second museum we recommend is the Holy Art Museum, which is also located in the historic centre of the parish. You will go on an exciting journey through time while discovering some of the most important liturgical objects from the country’s wealth of religious art. Finally, if you are a car fanatic, you cannot miss the Automobile Museum, found in the heart of the parish. There, you will find one of the most important collections of vehicles in southern Europe!
An unforgettable culinary experience
When you get to this point, it will be time for lunch! To enhance your visit even further, we advise you to book a table in one of Encamp’s 3 most typical bordes. Stone walls, wooden beams and stylish rustic décor are the common features of these restaurants, which combine their cosy surroundings with a menu where mountain cuisine and local products are the protagonists. You’ll feel right at home!
For mountain lovers
Encamp is one of Andorra’s most popular tourist spots for mountain activities, as it offers a host of options all year round: in the winter, you can access the slopes of Grandvalira (thanks to the Funicamp cable car), while there’s plenty of fun to be had in the summer, with fishing, climbing, via ferrata, hiking and many other opportunities!
If you are a keen walker, we recommend the Camí de les Pardines: an easy route that joins Encamp to Escaldes-Engordany and ends at Lake Engolasters. Once you reach this point, we suggest you carry on along the Hydroelectric Route, where you will discover the driving force of water, used to generate electricity. However, this route needs to be booked in advance, as you will be accompanied by a specialist guide. The perfect complement to the route is a visit to the Museum of Electricity.
Other highlights
Another curious feature you can see is the pioneering Radio Andorra building, built in 1938–1939. This building was named an Andorran Cultural Heritage Site in 2004 and inside it, is home to a priceless wealth of historical and record industry heritage.
Stay the night at a traditional cottage
As you can see, Encamp is a town that offers hundreds of possibilities. The accommodation available includes two rural houses, Borda del Mollà and Casa Rural de les Arnes, both awarded the status of 4 ears of wheat (rural equivalent to stars). They are perfectly styled and decorated, and their comfortable facilities have everything you need for an unforgettable stay.
We suggest you top of your exciting, fun-packed visit by staying the night in one of these superb facilities, where you can take some time to relax and recharge your batteries in an unbeatable setting!
Be swept away by the charm of a town where nature, history and culture go hand in hand!
