Countryside and curiosities along the La Peguera cycle route

As mentioned earlier, one of most attractive features of the route is its beauty. Set in the characteristic green spring and summer landscape of the Sant Julià de Lòria valley, the panoramic views are practically continuous right from the start of the climb. The landscape is dotted with typical "bordas", small mountain buildings originally used for storing grain and animals, and one of the most traditional buildings in Andorra. Many have remained in such good condition that some have been refurbished for a new purpose: as mountain restaurants.

As well as the delightful scenery, the La Peguera route is well-known as the setting for major cycling race stages in recent decades, especially the Vuelta a España. In 2015, it was part of what for many was the hardest stage in the history of the race: the 11th stage, starting in Andorra la Vella and ending in Cortals d'Encamp, with six mountain passes, two of them "hors catégorie". And the whole route ran on Andorran terrain. A coincidence? No. Just Andorra.
