The Comapedrosa Valleys Natural Park can now be accessed via the GR11 by way of the old path to the Arinsal charcoal pits. This new section no longer follows the forest track, which is reserved for service vehicles only.
The trail starts by the Pollós river, enters a leafy forest that winds uphill and crosses the river on three wooden footbridges. The footbridges offer views of waterfalls and hard-to-access yet extremely beautiful stretches of river.
Having crossed the three wooden bridges, the trail continues to Aigüesjuntes, after which there are the options of either continuing towards the staffed Comapedrosa Refuge or taking the path leading to the Pla de l’Estany.
Shortly afterwards there is an interpretive charcoal pit for visitors to discover the tree-felling process and the traditional charcoal-making technique.
For your safety, we recommend that all routes above 1,700 metres should only be hiked between the end of June and the end of September. Weather and terrain conditions permitting, however, the season can run from May to October.
