It’s a chapel for oratory used for the purpose of cult in the house of Cal Berenguer, (10th century). The structure of its windows would give the building a pre-Romanesque classification. The entrance door has a pointed arch which was built later. The chapel of Sant Mateu de Pui d’Olivesa was one of the many properties of the monastery of Sant Serni de Tavèrnoles.
