To find out more

Since the Volta a Catalunya visited us for the first time in the 1950s, followed by the Tour de France in 1964 and the Vuelta a España in 1965, the mountain routes and passes of Andorra have been becoming more high profile and popular for cycling enthusiasts. Now, we can definitely say that in recent years, Andorra has becoming cycling country.

You’ll find everything here. From cycle tourism routes with circuits and finishing lines that are part of the history of modern road cycling, to mountain biking circuits, routes and descents, some of which are the setting for world championships. You’ll be able to get a first-hand look at Andorra’s extensive network of routes for road and mountain biking, where lovers of cycling in any of its forms will have a great time and be able to put their passion to the test. And this is all in addition to a range of accommodations and services that are one of a kind in the Pyrenees.

Cycling country

In Andorra, there are loads of routes and passes available so that you can have a great time on your bike.

Coll de la Gallina, Cortals d’Encamp, Collada de Beixalis, Coma d’Arcalís, Port de la Rabassa and Coll d’Ordino are just some of the names that will ring a bell with cycling enthusiasts. It’s no wonder that some of these have been decisive in different editions of La Vuelta a España and the Tour de France.  Finishing lines, stages and mountain passes that form part of the great story of modern cycling, such as the Arcalís stage of the 1997 Tour de France with the unexpected victory of Jan Ullrich (who would go on to win the race). Or the now legendary queen stage of the 2015 Vuelta a España, considered by many to be the hardest stage in the history of the Spanish tour, which was won by Mikel Landa.

These routes and passes are just some of the ones you’ll find outlined in our cycle tourism guide, where, together with a description, you’ll find the tracks for each pass as well as a list of bike-friendly accommodations and specialist shops. Download the guide from this link.

If you’d like to experience being surrounded by the excitement of cycling enthusiasts like you, every season various non-competitive events are held where you’ll be able to share your passion:

Volta als Ports

With over 40 editions under its wheels, this is the non-competitive cycling event with the longest history and tradition on our calendar, attracting a large number of international participants every year. It features various circuits, making it suitable for all kinds of enthusiasts. The most demanding circuit follows the route of the Andorran stage of the 2016 Tour de France, whith the ‘sterrato’ sector from the 2019 La Vuelta stage.

La Purito

This race’s short history has not stopped it becoming one of the most eagerly awaited dates in the cycle tourism calendar in just a few years. Backing from former professional cyclist Joaquim ‘Purito’ Rodríguez is one of the keys to its success. The La Purito route is highly challenging, as it follows the path of the 11th stage of La Vuelta 2015, which many consider the hardest stage ever in the history of the Spanish tour.
